A journal that writes Markdown.
Every entry is a plain text file in a folder you own — on your iPhone, in iCloud Drive, or straight into your Obsidian vault. Readable in any editor, on any computer, for as long as you keep it.
Your files, not a database
One Markdown file per entry, with the date, tags and place at the top as properties. No proprietary format, no export step, nothing to get out later. Open the folder in Finder and it is all just there.
Works with Obsidian
Point Vaultbook at a vault and it writes straight into it — wikilinks, callouts, properties and attachments the way Obsidian expects. Or skip all that and let it keep a plain folder in iCloud Drive instead.
A proper journal, not a notes app
A timeline by month, on this day, calendar, covers, writing prompts, photos and places, and statistics about what you have written. The things a journal needs, rather than a text editor with dates on it.
Finds words inside pictures
Photographs, screenshots, scans and your own handwriting are read on the device so their words turn up in search. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing read from a picture is ever written into your files.
Nothing leaves your phone
No account, no sign-in, no analytics and no server. Syncing is whatever you already use — iCloud, Obsidian Sync, git, Syncthing — and your writing never passes through anybody else on the way.
